Trouble with Time

We arrived home from a weekend away, and had to wake up a dishevelled grock from the back of the car to get her in the house. "Time for Bed" said Dad. "It's twenty to nine!"

"I usually stay up later than that" Grock announced grumpily with a yawn. "I don't normally go to bed until thirty to nine!"

Growing Up Grock

Grockelina informed her father this morning that he should "get with the programme, Grandad". Along with "whatever" and "butt" I am blaming the Disney Channel for everything wrong with 7 and a half year old girls. My life is a whirl of nail polish remover, turning down the volume, picking up discarded clothes and eye-rolling. God help me when she hits 14!

Grockelina Sings Rock

Driving in the car, Grocksie bursts into spontaneous song - the full lyrics of Livin' on a Prayer. I join in, but soon realise she is singing slightly different lyrics with geometric overtones... "Take my hand and we'll make it a square... wooah oh, livin' on a prayer"

Life Cycles

I decided to use breakfast as a good time to educate Grocksie on which came first, the chicken or the egg.

I asked her what would have happened if we hadn't taken the boiled egg away from the hen, and she looked at me blankly.

I prompted her "The mummy hen would have sat on it and then it would have been a......"

"Flat Egg!"

Let It Be

Grocksy is a big Beatles fan thanks to her Wednesday ride home with Daddy. She is particularly fond of Let it Be, but with more interesting lyrics "Let it Be, Let it Be, Let it Be Let it Be, There will be a hamster, let it be.... and in my awkward daughter, she is standing right in front of me...."

Oops!

Grockelina on Growing Up

L had a bit of trouble buttering bread for a picnic today. She sighed heavily and I told her not to worry, she was only little after all. She agreed and told me "Yes mummy - I'm only a little girl. You've been to anniversary (she means university) and I haven't even started Rainbows yet!"
My wee girl will be starting school soon. How am I going to break the news that the uniform is blue - no rainbow stripes, no pink, no purple - not even any "purply pink"... I wonder when the black phase starts. She knows all the words to "Livin' on a prayer" so it probably isn't that far off.

Grockelina was admiring my wedding photo and commented "Mummy you look very beautiful, but your ears haven't grown yet!"

We had Sports Day at playgroup today and I won the Mummys race. She was delighted (the prize was edible!)

At the moment I am "Moogle", Daddy is "Doogle", Teddy is still "Teddac" and Gary the Car is "Google!" Grannac and Grumple quite like their names...
